Welcome Spartina

Posted by Pam Linton on

We are so excited to bring another new brand, Spartina to our Crystal House boutique customers. This Hilton Head Island, South Carolina based handbag and accessory company came to life in a seaside cottage on the small island of Daufuskie in 2009. Daufuskie Island is only accessible by passenger ferry or private boat, Loggerhead Turtles nest in the sand dunes, dolphins play in the local waters and whitetail deer dine on the local foliage. In this island oasis Spartina CEO Kay Stanley imagined how leather and linen in colorful patterns reminiscing timeless island stories could become a coordinated handbag collection loved by women everywhere. The company name “Spartina” originates from the lush cordgrass that flourishes in the saltwater marshes along the Carolina coast. The pattern names of these special bags are sparked by the islands history. The Spartina Mermaid is inspired by tales of sailors who, after a night of indulging in island spirits, gazed into the moonlit ocean, convinced they saw mermaids swimming nearby. More likely, they were swooning over local dolphins! Spartina linens are woven in the same tradition that began over 30,000 years ago with the Ancient Egyptians, the same techniques that have evolved into today’s French and Belgian linens. Specially commissioned artisans create Spartina’s intricate signature weaves. Spartina uses eco-friendly water-based inks and all exterior linens are water resistant and stain protected. Visit us soon for your chance to view our new collection of Spartina handbags and accessories!
